Project Summary
SCG supplied over 300m3 of SA Water Specified Concrete to the Penneshaw Desalination plant project. We produced all of the concrete out of our Kingscote batch plant located on the island. We completed this project over the course of a few months.
Project Challenges
As the project was located approximately an hour in travel time from the concrete batching location, SCG had to create effective strategies for supplying concrete without gaps in-between loads, while ensuring the technical mix of concrete was holding slump and strength specifications throughout the period of the delivery.
Due to a high demand for the Ferry to the island, SCG faced challenges in keeping a consistent flow of materials in stock at the Kangaroo Island batch plant.
The SCG Solution
- Commit up to 8 concrete trucks onto the pour to eliminate wait time between loads.
- Utilise technical team members to ensure the quality aspects of our concrete mix design were within the SA Water specifications required and were suitable for all environmental variables.
- Working in close relationships with Sealink Ferry to forward plan freight trips with materials required for the pour to ensure stock levels were kept high.
- Undertaking daily testing of concrete to verify and uphold quality components.
- Close communications with clients to promptly adapt to changes required within the project scope.
- Adjust mobile batching plant processes to suit specified mix design and batch time.
When considering our options for concrete suppliers for a recent project on Kangaroo Island, SCG was able to provide us with confidence that the strict quality requirements of the project and reliability of supply would be met.
Ultimately the project was completed in a timely manner with an exceptional standard of workmanship which we consider SCG played a key role in achieving.
